Staff Accountant

 

REPORTS TO: Accounting Manager 

PURPOSE OF POSITION: Responsible for assisting in preparation of accurate, consistent and timely management reports, general ledger account analysis, accounts receivable and billing, and ad hoc project assignments for all Jackson Companies entities and related companies.  The Staff Accountant must stay current on operational and financial business activities and be proficient in accounting matters for the areas in which he/she is involved. 

CLASSIFICATION: Full Time - Salaried - Exempt Pay Grade C 

DEPARTMENT: Accounting 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in ensuring that adequate accounting records are maintained for all assets, liabilities, and transactions of the Jackson Companies, and that suitable processes and protocols are followed in the compilation of all operating income and costs.
  • Reviews accounting and internal control procedures as assigned to increase the companies' protection against losses through negligence and/or dishonesty.
  • Cooperates with public accountants appointed by the Board of Directors in the execution of their duties.
  • Cross-trains with accounts payable, cash receipts, Treasury and cash management reporting areas.
  • Provides accounting support to all companies and all accounting areas.
  • Records accruals and other adjusting and/or correcting journal entries, as required.
  • Reconciles bank statements, recording adjusting journal entries, as required.
  • Conducts cash audits at all Jackson Companies locations, with assistance of other accounting and cash office personnel.
  • Provides training and support to staff, as necessary.
  • Maintains excellent interpersonal skills and interacts with teammates, at all levels, to assure knowledge of and compliance with financial and operational objectives of the firm.
  • Maintains complete and accurate audit trails and documentation for all business activity. This includes, but is not limited to, maintaining a proper archive of computer backup information and hard copy printouts.
  • Renew car and truck license tags for each company.
  • Reconcile teammate and family purchases charged to company or requisitioned from the warehouse. Collect funds when necessary.
  • Maintains an overall knowledge and perspective of the business.
  • Provide outstanding guest service at every opportunity.
  • Promote a positive relationship with team members in all departments and divisions.
  • Additional duties as assigned. 

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Actively demonstrate, encourage, train and model safety rules and guidelines, in accordance with Company, along with local, state and federal law requirements.
  • Investigate loss producing incidents and review prevention recommendations with all employees.
  • Actively participate in the safety meetings, if requested, by Management, providing and documenting safety training, if applicable, and offering improvement suggestions. Ensure that all safety equipment is used at all times, i.e. safety harness, eye protection, hard hats, gloves, etc.
  • Report safety or hazard concerns to management.
  • Report any work related injury to management.
  • Take personal responsibility for safety every day.

 QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS/EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:

  • Associates' or Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • 1-2 years accounting experience
  • Excellent computer skills, including both hardware and software capabilities. Must have working knowledge and application of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must have the ability to work on site for all scheduled hours.
  • Understanding of internal controls.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Positive attitude.
  • Ability to interact well with others in a team environment.
  • Physical requirements should include frequent lifting up to 50 lbs, pushing, pulling, and bending.
  • Physically able to stand, sit, and walk for extended periods of time. 

 SCHEDULE:

  • Campgrounds, Inc. operates 5 days each week. Employees must be available to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and/or holidays as well as overtime hours as necessary.
